Women and development has always been central to Plenty’s work in Belize, and that tradition continues to this day.
Plenty Belize is an active member of Women’s Issues Network — Belize (and just stepped down from the Secretary of the Board position). Gender equity is part of all of our projects, and recieves special attention in our economic development initiatives. Women’s and children’s health is a very important area that Plenty has helped to address through our Traditional Birth Attendant Project that trained village midwives in 20 remote villages in Toledo District.
Each year, Plenty Belize takes the lead role in organizing the Toledo portion of the national Torch Run about Gender-based Violence and HIV/AIDS. November 2007 saw hundreds of people participating in this awareness raising event.
